"Divan is an overlooked gem at the center of Istanbul with lower prices than its 5 star international peers within walking distance of Dolmabahce Palace and Beyoglu for visits and shopping. It is owned by the Koc Group which most likely deems Divan a matter of pride given the meticulous attention to every detail from accommodation to its restaurants, and, of course, its patisserie - one of the best in town. Don't forget to try the profiterole. The cuisine at its main restaurant is spectacular- try the lamb shank over aubergine puree.
We used to stay at the nearby Hilton until many of its charms were lost to renovations there. When visiting Istanbul during that period, we decided to try the Divan. It has surprised positively each time of the three visits since then. During our last visit the friendly receptionist gave us an upgrade to a generous family room, the size of a small apartment. The beds were very comfortable and the room quiet, giving a full night's sleep.
If you haven't tried Divan, you should."
