So our Hunter Valley bird (myself and Dick Jenkin ) photography workshop is in full swing. We’ve taken our group to a number of coastal locations and provided some interesting challenges for them to overcome as they juggle shutter speed, aperture, iso, exposure compensation, spot v matrix metering, bright light, shadows and wind and movement. The group are lapping it all up and producing some awesome images as we now commence the second half of the workshop out in the bush. We’re now enjoying the pleasures of the Hunter Valley vineyards as we continue our quest to find elusive species and have some fun and learning along the way. As we were leaving Newcastle and heading west we called into the Blackbutt Reserve (a must see if you are in the area) an scooted the awesome aviaries and displays. All free to the public I might add. Outside the reserve I was stalking some rosellas along a creek bed when this shot presented. A little tricky having to manually focus through leaves but I love the softness the surrounding bush gave to the early morning light. Nikon D800 Nikkor 400 f/4 VR 1/640s @ f/4 ISO 2500

The room hadn't been properly serviced. There was an open carton of milk left in the fridge and the floor was not vacuumed properly and there were no facewashers. We found a lovely staff lady named Liz who supplied a sealed carton of milk and facewasher with a sincere apology.
