Mtskheta used to be first georgian capital. However because of landscape formation city couldn't keep growing. Also city always had ( and still do) important, religious meaning for georgian people so they decided to move capital to Tbilisi, thanks to that in case of attack by "non-believers" Mtsheta wasn't in center of attention. #aboveitall
