Walk in the historic Jægersborg Dyrehave, explore one of the best-preserved villages in the country and go wild on the rides at Bakken amusement park.

Just a few miles north of Copenhagen is Kongens Lyngby, home to a number of unique attractions including Jægersborg Dyrehave, one of the few places in Denmark on UNESCO’s World Heritage List, or Bondebyen, the charming old town which has been preserved untouched over the last 200 years.

Kongens Lyngby was founded by the Vikings and takes its name from the time when it belonged to the king until the Reformation in 1536. It still bears the hallmarks of royal influence, with several castles and stately homes, including Sorgenfri Slot and Eremitageslottet.

Begin your stay in Kongens Lyngby with a walk in Jægersborg Dyrehave, where you can enjoy nature at its best in the parkland surrounding Eremitageslot, standing proud on the top of its hill. No doubt you’ll also spot some of the grazing deer roaming free in the park to the delight of its visitors. This is also the setting for the historic Hubertusjagt, which takes place on the first Sunday in November. Come here on that date and you can join around 40,000spectators who enjoy the spectacle of this exciting horse race.

Just a short distance to the south is the popular amusement park Bakken, a fantastic source of fun for all ages. Bakken also contributes to the historic atmosphere of Kongens Lyngby, as it has been here ever since 1583, making it without doubt Denmark’s oldest amusement park! Take the family along to try the many rides or buy tickets to the Cirkusrevyen if you visit during the summer.

Take a walk in the town centre to see Bondebyen – the old town and Denmark’s best-preserved village, presenting a living image of life 200 years ago. We also recommend a visit to Sorgenfri Slot and its park, or a walk around the lovely Lyngby Sø.

Come to Kongens Lyngby for magnificent scenery, rich animal life and Danish history close up. You can also combine the scenery and history with a great day out at Bakken for the whole family.
