The Tontine Hotel

6/10 Okay

"I return to Greenock frequently and was delighted to see the hotel has been renovated. The room was small but so much better for the renovation. Unfortunately it seems to have staffing problems. The barmaid was very stressed since she needed more help. We ordered food but it took so long to come we almost cancelled. It was average when it came. Breakfast was cold since burners not lit. After being shown to table that was last we saw of any staff in breakfast area. Hopefully service will improve- Greenock needs a good hotel."

"The hotel is in such beautiful surroundings right on the shore…absolutely amazing find the hotel is modern, clean & feels lovely to be in such a nice place..the staff are all friendly & go out of their way to assist. The food is perfectly cooked, hot & beautifully presented.Breakfast & dinner first class. The restaurant overlooks the sea so stunning!you don’t want to leave. The rooms are clean, spacious we had an arran view sea view which didn’t disappoint.Even had a fridge to keep your drinks cold perfect! Will definitely return soon"

"Staff were excellent, but the experience was badly let down by the condition of the room which was in dire need of a refurbishment. Breakfast was poor with a toaster which took an age to lightly brown the bread, croissants which were clearly not fresh and bananas which were rotten throughout. Such a shame, because it's location was excellent. We definitely expected better."

"Room was spotless, great shower. Bed was really comfortable. The food from the restaurant was excellent and service was great. 4 EV chargers which allowed us to charge up before going home. Only couple of issues, I filled in online the “pre checkin” form to save time (hotels words not mine). But when I got to reception I had to complete it again. Iron in the room was all sticky too. Small issues, hotel was great"

"Really run down. In our room, the shower attachment distinegrated, the bathroom fan did not work, the toilet seat was broken, the electric face plate for the towel rail was smashed, the bathroom door had had 2 big holes filled, the carpet was stained. The entire hotel is run down and needs a full refurbishment. Outside, the beer garden has a fake rolled out lawn, cut badly around the edges with trip hazards. Avoid the restaurant. I ordered steak pie and mash. What I got was some meat in a dish with a puff pastry lid placed on top, a spoonful of mash that looked like it had been sitting around and a splodge of over-boiled frozen vegetables."
