"The Upper House is in an idyllic setting, the outdoor space is beautiful, with plenty of parking. The property is traditional with some lovely features but could do with some updating, especially in the bedrooms. The gentleman on reception was lovely and really helpful, the rest of the staff were young and quite inexperienced and were in need of a mature experienced Manager to guide them. The restaurant food on the evening was of a good quality and well presented, the restaurant itself would benefit from updating and a thorough clean. The bedrooms were tired and unfortunately quite dusty. With a period property there are more areas to gather dust such as chandeliers, intricate wall sconces and decorations. The bed was old and creaky when you turned over in the night. The bathroom had been updated but unfortunately the sink had been fitted with a tap which would work well in a bath, but the water came out at an angle that missed the sink altogether if turned on fully. The cleaning of the bathroom was not thorough and there were some questionable stains in the hinge of the toilet seat and behind the toilet seat. The base bed sheet had a stain on it. The breakfast was well presented and enjoyable, however we were charged for my poached eggs on toast as they were not a menu item! I should’ve ordered the eggs Benedict without the hollandaise! Overall we had a very pleasant stay, and with some staff training and a thorough clean would return and recommend to others."

"I only have an issue with the Spa Center that the Jacuzzi was not clean, dirty residue around water line. However the swimming pool was nice and clean and the changing rooms very nice and clean also. My room was spotless and lovely decor and clean bathroom. Very happy with it. Staff were also very nice. breakfast was very nice, freshly cooked hot breakfast alongside buffet. I would have given higher stars had all areas been clean. I would happily return to this hotel again. "

"Unfortunately a terrible stay... There was no hot water at all during our trip and staff claimed it was about to be fixed when raised with them on the first day. The hot water was never fixed. Additionally the room and bathroom did not appear to have been properly cleaned, and the building overall seemed to be in a state of disrepair. Sad to see what could be a lovely old hotel run in this way."

"Staff were all friendly and helpful. There was a bit of bar noise through to the room but it is an old building so not unexpected. Breakfast on weekdays is continental in a small lounge area on the same level as the rooms, I quite liked this as it was self service, cereal, milk, tea, coffee, bread for toasting and butter/jam all readily available. We didn’t have breakfast on the Saturday morning so can’t comment on cooked breakfast. We ate in one night and the food was good with plenty of choice. The staff logged the car registration number for their parking system."

"Welcoming owners Helen and Andy provide a warm, comfortable and luxurious B&B in the heart of lovely Eccleshall. Helen's artsy skill are shared in abundance, with every little detail attended to. Our room overlooked the beautiful garden at the back of the property, adjacent to private car parking, and a gentle stroll down to the town. We plan to stay again, truly a delightful experience."
