The Castle of Guimarães began with a monastery built by Mumadona Dias in the 10th century, before, therefore, the formation of Portugal. As the attacks of the Moors were frequent they decided to build a wall to protect the community and the monks that lived inside. It was this fort that gave origin to the Castle of Guimarães. Later, in the twelfth century, it was in this castle that Dom Afonso Henriques was born. Some years after he would become the first king of Portugal. With the lack of use the castle was degrading. Recently it was recovered and classified as National Monument. It is also considered World Heritage by UNESCO. A place full of history and that was cradle of Portugal. It is no wonder that in a piece of the original wall has the words "Here was born Portugal".

For the price in January it’s well worth a visit for a simple spa with some different hydro massages, and a sauna. The restaurant is nice and the room was clean and nice.

Very nice stay a comfortable and clean apartment with all the facilities we needed. Definitely need a car to get around but wasn't an issue for us.

We enjoyed our stay here - the staff were friendly and the room was great. Breakfast was very good, and the restaurant good quality and value. The hotel is somewhat isolated if you're visiting Guimaraes, but we'd decided to stay here, drive up to Penha and use the cable car to visit the city and back. This worked well. Had a meal at nearby Taberna Londrina, which was excellent. Get there by walking the quiet bike route rather than the main road.

Country club wih hotel rooms outside town.

Its really a country club with rooms so it has a big pool where you can do laps. It also has a professional gym. The toilet seat was small. The hotel interior is functional. Breakfast was ok. No vegetables. Its 10 minutes by car to town.

Inês from the front desk was amazing and very helpful. Thank you. Be aware No tennis clay courts are available anymore (eventhoug they were still on the website/hotels.com), that was a bummer as we wanted to train pre-season hard courts are available.

Quelconque, à éviter.

L'accueil est tout à fait correct, mais arrivé dans la chambre je constate qu'il n'y a pas de réfrigérateur. Je redescends à la réception et souligne cette absence. Un réfrigérateur sale est déposé et branché dans ma chambre. Mais deux heures après, il ne fait toujours pas de froid. Je redescends à la réception mais il n'y a plus de service d'entretien. Je suis contraint de demander un sceau avec de la glace....nous sommes dans un hôtel 4*. Le repas du soir était satisfaisant grace notamment à l'accueil de la serveuse. Le petit déjeuner fut quelconque. Jus de fruits industriel, seulement du beurre demi-sel, et de la viennoiserie de mauvaise qualité.

Bel établissement, restaurant sur place, chambres spacieuses, grande salle de bain, en revanche petit soucis avec la douche la porte laisse de l’eau passer, du coup le sol est toujours mouillé ce qui est plutôt désagréable… Mes premiers séjours dans l’établissement remonte à 2019, et je trouve que le petit déjeuner qui est servi sous forme de buffet est en baisse…
