Flint is a market town inFlintshire, NorthWales, situated on the estuary of the RiverDee. It sits close to the border between England and Wales, justacross the estuary from the Wirraland a stone’s throw from the city of Liverpool. The town has a rich history andthe oldest town charter in Wales,dating back to 1284.

Flint has its ownfootball team, Flint Town United FC, who play inthe Cymru Alliance at Cae-y-Castell Stadium.

Flint has a goodselection of shops, including many high street chain stores, as well as a largeretail park a short distance from the town centre. A market has been held inFlint since the 1200’s, and the traditioncontinues to this day, with a street market of around 30 stalls held in ChurchStreet each Friday.

Attractions In and Around Flint

Flint Castle, builtlargely between 1277 and 1284, was the first of a chain of castles built duringKing Edward I’s campaign to conquer Wales. The castles were intended toencircle North Wales and were known as the Iron Ring. 

In 1399 Richard II of England was captured and held atFlint Castle by Henry Bolingbroke, as recorded byWilliam Shakespeare in his play, Richard II. During the English Civil War thecastle was held by the Royalists until 1647, after which Oliver Cromwellordered its destruction to prevent its reuse in the war. The resulting ruinsare what remain today. The famous painter JMW Turner painted a watercolour ofthe ruined castle in 1838.

Just a few miles fromFlint, in Holywell,is St Winefride’s Well. Known for its healing waters and mentioned in themedieval poem, Sir Gawain and the GreenKnight, the well has been a place of pilgrimage since the 7th Century, butthe present building dates to the early 16th Century and is a Grade-I listedbuilding and scheduled ancient monument. 

Wepre Park is a countrypark near Connah’s Quay, a few miles down the roadfrom Flint. It covers 160 acres, with playingfields, a ruined castle, a fishing pond, a waterfall, a stream, a skate park, achildren’s play area, a visitor’s centre and acres of woodland. The impressivebut decaying Ewloe Castle was built by Llywelyn the Great in 1255 and somebelieve that the castle and the woodland around it are haunted by the ghosts ofmarching men.

Room was nice there was no conditioner which really in a 5 star hotel should be always checked. Also my benefits was not given or welcomed which again shouldn’t be happening in a 5 star hotel.
