This beautiful wooden fretwork separates the reading room from the book stacks, which we did not have access to. You might notice that the design mirrors the fretwork on the outside of the Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca.

Fes El Bali

Travelers come to Fes El Bali for its abundant dining options, and you can see top attractions like Bou Inania Madrasa and Chouara Tannery while you're in town.

Fes El Bali
The Medina of Fes El Bali is the biggest Medina in Morocco and it´s full of life!
Madrasas, fondouks, palaces, residences, mosques and fountains are everywhere! But, be careful, this Medina is also the most labyrinthine, so my advice is to have a local and official guide with you, especially if you have no much time to visit the city because you´ll probably get lost more than once! ;)

Dar Tazi

If you're spending some time in Dar Tazi, Sidi Moussa Tannery and Talisman Art Gallery are top sights worth seeing.

Dar Tazi
An iconic sight for sure, the tanneries of Fes was absolutely interesting to take in. As well as the smell, which wasn't as bad as I anticipated - and they gave us a bundle of mint to smell if it got too bad. :)

Here you can see all the different colors of leather dyed...and dried...and here you will find the biggest selections and best prices for leather products at the surrounding leather shops that have a veranda to see the men at work below.

Yes, yes I did acquire a bag while I was there - and it has Berber carpet on it too - double score! :)

El Ayoun

While El Ayoun isn't home to many top sights, Bou Inania Madrasa and Blue Gate are some notable places to visit nearby.

El Ayoun
“Blue? It’s green!” we hear you cry! The other side is blue, but this side is green, the colour for Islam. Standing since 1913, this is the gate that represented all the Arabian Night stories. We got up at 5.30am to get shots without people. If you like this angle you need to head to the roof of the Cascade Hotel. For a few dirhams the sleepy doorman will let you in and lead you up. Seeing the sunrise over this very special city while the Mu’azzin sing out the prayer call is a must. Should you head that way, please send our love to Fes. #history #fes #morocco #babboujeloud

Talaa

If you're spending some time in Talaa, Bou Inania Madrasa and Blue Gate are top sights worth seeing.

Talaa
The Chouara Tannery of Fez, Morocco dates back to the 11th century, it operates much the same way it has since its inception.
In this photo a young man dyes the hides of cows, sheep, goats, and camels inside of stone vessels. The solution that they use to clean and soften the skins is a mixtures of cow urine, pigeon feces, quicklime, salt, and water. #history
