Whittinghame Church in the Parish of Traprain. The present church at Whittinghame (pron. with soft g and silent h) was greatly rebuilt in 1722 on the site of a church erected in 1225 to replace a 7th century church, at nearby Luggate Burn, dedicated by St. Cuthbert, the Apostle of the Lothians. Many famous men have been laid to rest in this historic place including the 1st Earl Balfour of Whittinghame, former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. The battlements of this fine church are reminiscent more of churches in Dorset and Somerset, stand aloft on high ground in the tiny parish. Stay was perfect from start to finish. A warm welcome on arrival. Shown to room and member of staff explained how to use hot tub etc. We stayed for dinner in the hotel which was delicious and the breakfast was lovely.
