Eastern Iowa hotel rooms a the Independent

"The room was very clean. The biggest downfall was being awaken by the loud trains that travel pass. I didn't notice that it was by train tracks. So annoying. Also we were so tired and awaken by the fire alarms going off at 4/5am. So scary. "

"The hotel is older & feels older. Water pressure in the shower was lacking & not much hot water. The pool was under renovation but not listed on the website. I was told I couldn't check in early after calling beforehand. I was able to check-in early with a $20 fee."

"Breakfast very good started closing up just after 9:30, why??? Had a fire alarm go off around 10 PM. Luckly a false alarm. But much confusion on what was going on. We exited the building. Fire dept arrived. No one from the staff available to tell us what was going on. Alarms stayed on until 1:30 AM. I had to approach the front desk to find out what was going on. I never saw any staff except for 2 people behind the desk. They said they had to call for help to shut the alarm off. "

"The room was clean, staff were helpful, good selection of breakfast items including meats, potatoes, eggs, fruit, and waffles. The bar had a wide variety of different liquors and beer. During our stay there were kids running around unsupervised, yelling and playing on the luggage carts and throwing balls around the lobby area. It was difficult to enjoy the amenities due to this. The properties page on Expedia advertised the Rhythm Casino is a 1 minute walk from the hotel, however, it’s a 16 minute drive. Property has limited but available parking on the property for an additional cost of $10. Valet parking is also an option. Breakfast is an additional cost as well but cheaper if you pay when you book the room at $13 per adult."
