Dumaguete hotel rooms a the Independent

"Do not recommend staying. 1. Hotel doesn’t have bathroom drain piping that would be complaint with North American standards. No P traps on any drains, (we were in more than one room) 2. Hotel staff accused us of ordering breakfast for room service and made a huge deal out of it. We never ate breakfast at the hotel. If you stay at this hotel demand they block charges to room service and require payment upon any food delivery. 3. The clothing cabinet was the only place I could store my suit. The cabinet had some strange smell and the suit reeked. I asked front desk to recommend a ‘dry cleaner’. They sent staff up to manage. I showed staff the label on the suite, “dry clean only”. Hotel Essencia washed suite like regular clothes and used either heavily scented soap or fabric softener. The size of the suit changed and it stretched significantly. The jacket looked horrible. My custom tailored suit no longer fits at all. 4. Do not recommend renting a car from Hotel Essencia. The experience is not the same as a professional car rental company and cost more. Find safer rental companies towards the airport from downtown. Our room on the 3rd floor smelt terribly of sewage late at night. We found a hotel with traps on all drains in the bathroom and enjoyed staying there."

"As a regular staying at Essentia in Dumaguete, Charos dormitel is a breath of fresh air !! Outstanding room, staff, restaurant and not so many guests (not crowded like Essentia) ! I agree with other travelers reviews now ! This was a 5 star experience for one night stay. Definitely will return in the near future😀 "
