The Royal Hotel

"An initial, disappointing start to our stay was quickly remedied, quietly, politely and professionally. From then on everything was so much better. The Hotel is probably a little understaffed (a reflection of the economic strains of current hospitality?) so often a Team member had to be searched out but once found were polite, attentive and friendly. Our room, a late booking so limited choice, was compact but nevertheless comfortable with an excellent rain shower in the bathroom and a good view of the river. We found a delightful lounge on the first floor from which we could watch the world go by as the river ebbed and flowed whilst enjoying the occasional glass of beer, or two!! Dinner on each night was a lovely occasion in a stylish dining room, well cooked food, nicely presented and served by delightful staff."

Watersmeet Hotel

"This hotel is in a fantastic location with beautiful walks along the shore. The hotel is clean, sophisticated and comfortable. The staff were almost all very friendly, kind and helpful. The food was very nice - excellent breakfasts especially. The only downsides are that the pool is freezing. Also information on the room specification was misleading ‘shower/bathtub combination’ logically made me think we would have a bathtub with a shower over the top. As a part of an expensive seaview room, I really wanted a bath and the information given made me believe this is what we would have instead of the shower which I found in our room. Otherwise I would not have booked that room. I was told on arrival by the hotel manager that I should have made a special request for this before arriving (which made it seem like this was my fault). She told me that there was nothing she could do about it because they were fully booked and that next time, I needed to request this to avoid being disappointed. No other attempts to make up for this or to at least accept that the information given had been misleading were made. The rest of the kind and welcoming staff and our stay there made up for this rude and unkind interaction and we had a nice time but this did taint the trip for us and better customer service could have avoided us feeling disappointed and told off."

Hartland Quay Hotel

"We loved the friendly, open hearted staff. Our room was comfortable, and there was a lovely separate lounge with great views onto the sea. À nice little piano was sitting in there too, but it needs some TLC and à tune!"

"Enjoyable stay at what is perhaps best described as a fantastic restaurant with rooms. The restaurant overlooks the water and both dinner and breakfast were excellent. However our room was landside, with only a view of Irsha Street. Although small, the room and facilities were excellent. Fresh milk in the fridge is always much appreciated by us tea drinkers."

"Very nice room with sea view, unfortunately very steep stairs to get there and as suffering mobility issues, not the best, although staff were not aware. Breakfast excellent, and evening meal for 7 highly commented on favourably, hot plates and food. Unfortunately a bout of food poisoning occurred overnight, although the source cannot be confirmed but suspected. Would recommend and stay again. Chair to be placed in room in September after renovations will be a bonus."

"Arrived late at our stay and then realised that we had in fact booked for the weekend after! Disaster after a 6 hour drive and very little options. We apologised and explained the error to our host. Amazingly and also luckily the host immediately went to work setting up an alternative glamping pod for us to stay in. The place was immaculate, hosts are extremely friendly and everything about the trip was perfect and as described. We will certainly be returning."
