"The hotel is well situated close to downtown Austin. It is right beside highway 35 but there was limited road noise ... probably a benefit of having a room on the 16th floor. The hotel had excellent air conditioning which was very helpful given it was very hot in Austin during our stay (be aware that although there is a thermostat in your room regardless of the temperature you set the room will stay at 71 degrees ... the only option you have is either turn the system completely off or expect 71 degrees). The pool area is very pleasant with sofa's in the shade for relaxing and a number of other chaise recliners that are in the sun. We had breakfast in the Graffiti Restaurant one morning. It was just ok. (If you ordered oatmeal it only came with oat milk ... no other options.) We were told by one of the managers on Wednesday evening that there was Happy Hour scheduled in Limestone Restaurant that evening but when we arrived we were told by the attendant / bar tender that Happy Hours only happen twice a week ... Wednesday not being one of the days. The attendant kindly offered to call the manager to see if he would approve Happy Hour pricing given the mix up ... which he did BUT there were so many restrictions we left disappointed. Generally the staff were helpful and pleasant."

"The rug was wet in my room when I checked in and it smelled a little like mildew. It was probably from the too short shower curtains that blow in the shower stream allowing water to escape onto the floor. I had to be real careful when showering to keep the shower curtain inside the tub. They need to spend some money for longer shower curtains and clean up the mildew smell. Other than that it was good. The included breakfast was great."

Holiday Inn Express & Suites Austin Downtown - University by IHG

"Probably the main thing to know is that this Holiday Inn Express is connected to the Hotel Indigo and check-in is through the latter. For a relatively small hotel (or hotels), it can be confusing to get around the first few times. We took the parking garage elevator to the lobby floor of the Holiday Inn Express but there's no lobby there anymore (even though that's where they serve the solid, if underhwelming, free breakfast). You then walk down a corridor to find yourself on the mezzanine of Hotel Indigo and have to take another elevator down to the lobby and check-in. Then it's back up the elevator to the mezzanine, down the hallway to a *third* elevator to get to your rooms in the Holiday Express. It seems unneccessarily convoluted but I''m guessing it's been determined it's the most cost effective way to run the place. There is ample signange explaining where to go but as tired as we were, we didn't catch it the first couple of times. The staff was *incredibly* friendly and helpful and helped us find our way. The room was OK, some pee stains on the bathroom floor, but otherwise clean. Worst thing about the room was *zero* USB portss, somthing that I have not encountered since before they were invented."
