Hotel Van Zandt did not meet our expectations for a 4-star property: 1. Check-in staff were not welcoming 2. Room was dusty 3. Room was missing a chair: one chair for 2 people! 4. Our room came with only one bath towel and one hand towel for 2 people; guest services said there was a “towel shortage” 5. The bed was clean but there was no sheet under the duvet (I presume the duvet is not washed between guests so a barrier sheet is necessary) 6. No complimentary water in room; $9/bottle 7. Dated gym equipment 8. Hotel perimeter is a construction site with multiple high-rise buildings under development (October 2024) 9. The bar across the street is VERY loud. Our room was on the 8th floor but the noise kept us awake until 2am

Beautiful ascetics and staff were excellent. Restaurants on site top tier. However, depending on room the restaurant and bars right outside of hotel will make you feel like you are on a college campus. Do not count on sleep before 2am when the loud music stops playing. If you are in party mode this is the hotel for you.

The hotel is booking a lot of conferences so the amenities (which you pay an extra per day fee) are inaccessible or crowded. The area is under a lot of construction which was noisy in the morning and made it difficult to get around town.

I really enjoyed the amenities. On arrival the welcome drink was much appreciated. The use of record players made our room fun. The use of their bikes to ride on the near by Ann and Roy bike and hike trail made it easy to see the Colorado River/ Lady Bird Lake. The evening drinks helped our group of friends join together before heading out for the evening. I only wished it lasted longer than 5:30. The rooms and bedding were comfortable. The hotel was also walking distance to everything we wanted to see in downtown Austin. Most of the staff were super friendly and accommodating. I highly recommend The Hotel Van Zandt.

This hotel is beautiful, but I will say unless your goal is live music and DJs until 2am, this may not be the hotel for you. The location puts it just outside of walking distance to many locations in the heat of the Summer, but it is decent enough the rest of the year. You are walking anywhere from .5 mile to maybe 1.6 miles max to get to many of the downtown locations you will want to hit while on vacation. I wouldn’t take any points off for this because I love walking, but time of year weather is worth considering. With that said this hotel is right on the popular Rainey St. There is a lot of construction going on as there are high rise apartments being built. The construction noise was to a minimum, but it could be heard. I think it just depends on your noise comfort level. Only one person in our group of 12 staying there felt the construction woke them around 7am each day. The rest in the group are either early risers or the noise just didn’t bother them. However, all of us that had rooms on the Rainey street side could agree on was the noise level of Rainey street in the rooms. The thumping of the music could not be dampened by the noise machine and ear plugs they offered. The noise goes on til 2am Thurs - Saturday. If you are someone who likes to be in bed early and is sensitive to sound this may bother you. If you can sleep through anything or plan on being out all night, this likely won’t impact you. For the price, and better location, choose the Driskell.
