Central United States hotel rooms a the Preferred

"This was our first time staying at a Royal Sonesta. Our first impression was not good because staff checking customers in was most unhelpful and provided no information. I paid extra for a “corner room” and the pictures on the website show windows….I got the view of an ugly wall. I inquired about a high floor and was told that ‘the room they gave me was all they had left’ which I find very hard to believe because the hotel and parking garage were quite empty. I paid extra for parking and the breakfast buffet and received no information about either. I messaged the hotel and got a very friendly call from management that gave me what I needed and even offered a perk which was very kind but we weren’t looking for anything other than details of our stay so we didn’t partake in the offer but it was a very nice gesture. The hallway outside our door was very dirty. The room itself was clean enough but the air never got cooler than 70° and we sleep with it much cooler than that at night so we were hot and uncomfortable. The best thing about the stay was the breakfast. Not only was the food great, the staff was FANTASTIC! They were very friendly and extremely accommodating. Our waitress was Alma A and she was the best! Overall, I’d say the stay was just “ok” but I had high hopes of it being a new place that we’d want to return to. We may return for the breakfast but probably not for another nights stay. "

"The condition of the halls of the hotel and building in general showed its age, but the room had been updated and was clean. The sink and tub drainage was poor. The room was heated very well especially on a cold day. The front desk lady that checked me in seemed in a foul mood but I am sure with saint pattys day crowd and it being busier than normal can cause that. There was a good security presence which made things feel a bit safer."
