The aesthetics and cleanliness of the hotel and outside beach bar were great. Private, quiet pool area that was nicely maintained. Perfect location- just a short walk from the ferry port and close to restaurants and shopping. Would go back to the Block Island Beach House in a heartbeat!

Location was great, beach chairs/umbrella service and prime seating area with bar and food right there along with views from room were the best thing about this place. Climbing 4 flights of stairs to get to my room in 90 degrees with no ac on first floor or in hallways/stairways was the worst. And the room was tight, felt a little closed in.

The rooms were small but comfortable, the air conditioning worked great, tv was good. 5 minute walk from the ferry which was convenient. Hotel staff was friendly. We unfortunately were awakened three times during our stay by teenagers banging on our door and running down the fire escape stairs to get away. Food at the Surf was great but we didn’t enjoy dining on paper plates with plastic forks. Overall a nice time we spent our days at Ballard’s beach as the water and sand was cleaner.

We are regular travelers to BI and have always loved the Surf Hotel (BI BH) but never stayed until this time. Everything about the service exceeded expectations. Our room was ready, the online check in expedited our process. The room was immaculate, fabulous shower (which you can almost never say on the Block) - super friendly bartenders, and the guy setting up beach side umbrellas and chairs was incredible in 96 degree heat. The food was great, the check out was super easy- we will always come back.

If you are looking for a hotel that is on a beach, this is good place to stay. If you are looking for a quiet stay, this is not your place. This is a old wooden structure with no carpet in rooms or hallway. Noise transmission was much higher than most hotels. Our room was much smaller than expected and although we had an ocean view, the windows had labels that said “ enjoy the view but keep windows closed “. The windows had counterweights removed so they wouldn’t stay open. Disappointing to not be able to open ocean view windows and hear waves lapping on the shore.
