"Hotel Indigo Durham – Stay 30th September & 1st October 2026 My friend and I stayed at Hotel Indigo Durham for two nights. The hotel is in an excellent location, with many of Durham’s sights and attractions within easy walking distance. I requested a quiet room and we were very pleased with the room we received. It was lovely and quiet, very comfortable, and the beds were extremely comfortable, giving us both a great night’s sleep. The bathroom was stunning, with a large shower which was a real pleasure to use. One of the highlights was the beautiful dining room. It is a stunning space and, in my opinion, worth staying at the hotel just to experience it. Breakfast was excellent, freshly cooked, served hot and made with good-quality ingredients. We thoroughly enjoyed it. We travelled from the train station to the hotel by Uber, which cost around £7 and was very convenient with our luggage. During our stay, we visited Durham Cathedral, which was beautiful and definitely worth seeing. Entry is free, although a £5 donation is requested. We were very happy to make a donation. The cathedral has also been used as a filming location for some of the Harry Potter films. We also enjoyed meals at 19Twenty Bar & Grill and Turkish Kitchen Meze & Grill, both of which were lovely. Overall, we had a wonderful stay. The excellent location, quiet and comfortable room, stunning bathroom, beautiful dining room and excellent breakfast made our visit very enjoyable. "Stayed here for overnight for our fifth anniversary. The hotel is in lovely surroundings and looks amazing. The staff are all friendly and helpful. However, after staying it’s clear this venue is certainly more geared towards being a wedding venue, rather than a hotel. We were very kindly given a bottle of Prosecco for the occasion, which was very lovely. However, the room we were given was tiny, with a gap of around 8 inches between the bed and the wall, and was located directly above both reception and the bar toilets, so we could hear other guests checking in word-for-word, as well as taps and hand dryers every few minutes. I raised this with staff who again very kindly offered an alternative room which was much bigger and more appropriate - however still slightly noisy with doors throughout the venue being heard shutting. However, we were very lucky that this other room was the last available, otherwise we’d have been stuck with the other. The receptionist explained this happens often with non-wedding guests, which we totally understood but there is no indication when booking that the venue is meant to be a ‘drop the bags, attend the wedding, sleep, and go’. Again, the setting, staff and restaurant were all great. But we were slightly disappointed that the initial room was so inadequate and that this is seen as standard just because they primarily cater to weddings. Would recommend to anyone for a wedding, but any other stay I’d be less inclined."
