"Room was dated, cold initially, heating controls broken, no electrical sockets near bed, bathroom door wouldn’t close, shower controls broken, peeling paint and wood on bathroom door. Broken glass in car park and police car patrols outside frequently suggesting crime hotspot. Appears to have fake 10/10 reviews with little description."

"We were very disappointed with our stay and unfortunately will not be returning due to the service we received. While I was taking a short 15-minute break in the sauna, I left my toddler with my teenage daughter by the pool. My daughter was using her phone only to play a video for the toddler to keep her calm and distracted while waiting for me. A staff member told her not to use the phone, so she understood that photos were not allowed and put the phone away in the bag, facing only towards the toddler so she could continue watching the video. Despite this, she was approached again and told off, even though other adults around the swimming pool were openly using their phones without any issue. My daughter felt unfairly targeted and embarrassed. The staff were unsupportive, inconsistent, and lacked basic customer care. On top of this, the cleanliness standards were poor. The evening before, our toddler dropped fries under the table during dinner in the restaurant. The next morning at breakfast we were seated at the same table, and the fries from the previous night were still there. That says a lot about the level of cleaning and attention to hygiene."

"In a lovely historic building set within pleasant grounds, especially as the wisteria was in flower. Very helpful staff, lovely room and comfortable bed. The breakfast was perhaps a little disappointing- dry basic with little choice of healthy cereal or cooked food if you are vegetarian. Overall very good though."

"The Royal Oak is outstanding in every respect. If you're staying a night, its facilities are unusually generous and extensive; if you're eating, the menu and the food are great; and if you just want a drink, there's a bar area and plenty of seating outside. The staff are lovely. Plus there's plenty of local information, books, games and events, not to mention a farm shop. If you can tear yourself away, visit Wayland's Smithy a couple of miles away along the Ridgeway."

"I had a very enjoyable stay at this hotel. The option to request both breakfast and dinner was convenient, and the meals were quite good. I also watched a Champions League match during my stay, which made the experience even more memorable. Overall, it was a great experienc."

"Beautifully maintained building, the member of staff who checked us in had only been working there for 3 months but was excellent and extremely attentive. The bedding and bathroom were immaculate and the housekeeper was extremely friendly and courteous. Breakfast was well presented, the eggs were too runny but quickly"
