"Good experience to stay in traditional Japanese house.clean and kitchen well equipped. Washing machine was convenient. Due to it being an older building, insulation isn’t very good and gets very cold in the winter and need heaters in all rooms. Location is not great as it is walking distance to most places. Bus stop 7 minute walk. Could have provided more furniture such as chairs. Overall nice experience besides being on the cold side."

"This machiya is fantastic! I'm so happy we chose to stay in Gion and in a traditional house instead of a hotel. It was very comfortable. My only complaint or warning to other travelers is that the steps to the bedroom are very steep. An elderly or very young traveler might have some difficulty maneuvering"

Staff was very helpful, answering a couple of emails before our trip in a very prompt manner, as well as being helpful while we were staying there. They were able to hold our bags for us when we arrived several hours prior to check in so we could go sightseeing, and they held them again for us for a couple of hours after checkout so we could see a few more things before leaving town....

"We wanted to stay in a traditional house that could sleep two couples and this was a great experience. I think if you had little familiarity with Japan and/or Kyoto, it would be a bit hard to find. The neighborhood was not hard to navigate, but it was a good ten minute walk to the busy part of shijo-dori. We arrived very late in the evening but had no trouble. Excellent hotel in Kyoto, convenient location
"Such a nice hotel! Very convenient location, with free shuttle to the train station (only about 10 minutes away). Staff was very helpful, answering a couple of emails before our trip in a very prompt manner, as well as being helpful while we were staying there. They were able to hold our bags for us when we arrived several hours prior to check in so we could go sightseeing, and they held them again for us for a couple of hours after checkout so we could see a few more things before leaving town. The room was spacious, modern and clean - very comfortable! I believe we got a very good deal using this site, so we were thrilled to see how nice this hotel was. We loved our two night stay there and would absolutely love to stay there again!"

"Very nicely located near the train station with great service. Stayed with three adults in larger family room and had more than enough room to accommodate everyone. Multiple restaurants allowed for choices in food. Helpful staff provided answers to all questions we had. Highly recommend. "
