5/5 Excellent
"I picked this motel as a last minute add-on to a trip to Boston and Cape Cod. There were only photos of the recently updated interior which looked really nice and I forgot that Howard Johnsons are motels which usually aren’t as nice as hotels. My heart sank for a minute when we pulled into the parking lot and I saw the motel exterior. However the lobby area and rooms exceeded expectations. Everything was brand new and looked as nice as higher-end hotels we have stayed at. The staff was very friendly and helpful and gave us a second floor room since I didn’t like the idea that someone could walk right up to the first floor. There are interior hallways so it’s just the balcony/patios that are on the outer part of the building. The motel seems to be in a safe enough area and is surrounded by shopping areas. While not as swanky as Newport, all the Newport mansions, shops and restaurants are just a few minutes drive away, so the location was convenient. The room was really nice and big and had a lot of outlets, storage and lighting. There was a lot of built-in shelving and little nooks to put luggage and other items to keep everything handy but out of the way so there wasn’t a lot of mess and clutter. There’s a second sink outside of the bathroom, which really came in handy since we were traveling with our teenage daughter. She had a place to do hair and makeup and not tie up the bathroom. The room was very nicely decorated and it was a very efficient use of space."
