7.8/10 Good! (1,298 reviews)
Booked just a room for spouse and me which turned out to be in the old "tower". Not impressed with light in bathroom hanging out of ceiling. Had booked daughter's family into a double room which happened to be in the new tower and it was like chalk and cheese, but the difference was not mentioned on the website. The foyer has been done up and that's what you see advertised but it is not the whole story. Fresh towels were limited and many days the storage area in the old tower was empty; new tower seemed to have an endless supply. Grandchildren, who swim like fish, liked the pool. Now close to mrt with Havelock (TE16) station and is about a 15 minute walk to Great World shopping centre, which also has mrt station TE15. The food choices are modern and varied including a Cold Storage but very busy on weekends. A 15 min walk west takes you to the Havelock Cooked Food Centre which is rundown and has limited choices; might be better when all the near-by construction work is complete. Just past it is a small Fairprice and other food shops. Buses to many attractions run quite close. As ever forget the usual poor choices on the TV. If you're thinking of buying an mrt/bus card don't depend on the 7-11 or the local station. Collect it at the airport. All-in-all it was satisfactory for our needs to launch daughter and grandchildren into LegoLand in Malaysia but not on our must use again list. It needs somebody whose 1st language is English to "fix" the sign on the side door re access.

9.2/10 Wonderful! (1,003 reviews)
The hotel is very impressive, modern and also a green oasis. It's a lovely feeling first coming in. Staff were pleasant.
The food is lovely and caters to a wide audience, with food stations based on international cuisines (we only had breakfast in the restaurant, we also had room service for dinner as we found local restaurants shut quite early and that food was just ok).
The room was lovely and spacious, the bed is comfortable. The balcony is a bit non descript, no room or appetite to sit out there.
Whilst we enjoyed our stay and it was a good base to get to Marina Bay, the main thing that really put us off were the live birds in tiny cages. I understand this has been the custom for years, however I've read previous complaints and the hotel said they would revisit this, however a decade later there has been no change. The sound of bird song would serve the purpose to create a nice ambience. It is beyond cruel to have creatures stuck in tiny cages all day - there is only one perch so they are unable to move to different heights, and the cages narrowed at the top in a cone shape which meant they can't fly around. Despite previous comments from the hotel saying the birds are well looked after, I disagree that these conditions are acceptable and add to guest experience. I personally witnessed many behaviours that showed the birds were distressed (jumping up and down, mouth hanging open etc.) and I was unable to see sufficient food and water. This really distressed us.

9.2/10 Wonderful! (321 reviews)
Had a really great week at the Kempinski it is really well located directly next to the capitol theatre and city hall MRT. Their easy access to one of Singapore's massive connected walkways, from the Kempinski you can get to at least 4 malls and two MRT stations without ever needing to go outside. The proximity of the theater also means there are so many great dining options it would take months to get bored.
But location is only half the story, the hotel itself is great, we booked an executive suite which came with executive lounge access and it was definitely worth the upgrade, just to have a little piece of calm in what can be a hectic city was worth it all by itself, even if we weren’t able to use it as much as we wanted as we were always on the go. The staff were also super friendly and helpful and seemed to really care, not just that your stay was good, but that you enjoyed the city (in fairness this was an overriding impression I got across Singapore, everywhere you went people were so proud of the city and wanted to show you the best.) So it may not be exclusive to the hotel, but every member of staff I met exemplified this behaviour and made our stay amazing. 100% will be staying here again for all future trips to the Lion City.
