Bondi Beach
The name is taken from the Bondi suburb that borders the legendary beach. And for holidaymakers who travel to Sydney to lay claim to their piece of Bondi Beach’s stretch of sand, there is also a great deal of life and culture to soak up within the beach’s immediate surroundings. Bondi offers great restaurants, shops and boutiques to browse, along with some of the most distinctive art deco architecture in Australia.
If you want to show off your tan after a day’s bronzing, then a night out in Bondi’s hip selection of bars and clubs is perfect. If you’re feeling the effects of the night before, why not take a morning yoga class on the beach to give your body and soul a boost?
As you would expect, there are water sports galore on offer at Bondi Beach, but surfing seems to be the biggest draw for most visitors. If surfing’s not your thing, take a refreshing dip in the sea, safe in the knowledge that the beach is patrolled daily by the Bondi Surf Bathers’ Life Saving Club.
For a break from the sun, sea and surf, Bondi’s streets have a cosmopolitan atmosphere and culture. The bohemian Bondi markets sell clothing and local crafts, while Bondi Junction, a little up the road, houses the vast Westfield shopping centre, where you can enjoy some serious retail therapy. Choose from designer stores like Chanel and Hugo Boss which sit among favourite mainstream shops. There’s also a well-stocked food court with plenty of choice to satisfy hungry shoppers
As with most areas in Sydney, Bondi Beach can be accessed easily by public transport, with buses running right down to the beach. Limited parking is also available if you prefer to drive.
