Arlington

Enjoy the sports games, theme parks and scenic walks of this classic American city in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Arlington, in the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington metropolitan area, is full of opportunities for recreational play and cultural exploring. Tree-lined streets span from downtown’s historic center to lakes, parks, golf courses, museums and theaters. Admire the impressive skyline year-round from the walkway along Johnson Creek, try produce from a farmers market in downtown or root for the home team at one of several sports stadiums.

In the 1950s Arlington experienced a boom in growth due to the arrival of a General Motors assembly plant. With jobs increasing, demand for leisure activities increased too and Arlington is now packed with fun attractions.

Follow Johnson Creek to Six Flags Over Texas, the original Six Flags location. Cool off next door at Hurricane Harbor water park. Become an expert in a truly American pastime at the nearby International Bowling Hall of Fame, marked by a giant bowling pin at its entrance. To enjoy a Broadway production or concert, drive the 20 minutes to the state-of-the-art Verizon Theater At Grand Prairie.

A stadium visit is a must for anyone wanting to mingle with the locals. From April through October Global Life Park in Arlington is where the Texas Rangers steal the show. Watch a baseball game and snack on peanuts or candy with a soda. Nearby AT&T Stadium, the stomping ground of the Dallas Cowboys football team, centers on one of the largest HDTVs in the USA. “Jerry’s World,” as this entertainment hub is sometimes called, is also a concert and soccer venue throughout the year.

Many of Arlington’s attractions are within walking distance of each other. To escape the Texas humidity, take a taxicab or rent a car. The Metro Arlington Express (MAX) offers daily passes for travel between the University of Texas at Arlington campus and a rail station south of Dallas-Fort Worth Airport.

While many come here for the day, Arlington’s range of hotels and restaurants make it easy to stay a while. Slow down, savor a plate of grilled food and take a stroll along Johnson Creek as the sunset sets over Texas.
