Le réceptionniste nous a fait croire que la piscine était payante pour 10€ par personne et notre fils voulait tellement y aller que nous avons cédé et payé 20€ pour lui et mon mari. "Overall the stay was fine. We were in the back of the building, overlooking the back yard of the neighbor. So it was very quiet. The bed was fine. The location in old town was very good. An easy walk to almost everything. The only glitches were some sparrows nesting on the lights outside the room. We left the door open and one flew in and flew back out when it saw no exit. The other thing was the small refrigerator. It made a lot of gurgling noises so we unplugged it at night. But...

Originally a small complex, the castle was continuously extended until 1278. After the Přemyslid dynasty died out in 1306, Zvíkov became property of the Rožmberk family. After 1337 the settlement under the castle has been fortified, as a part of thorough repairs. Its fortifications were so strong that even the Hussites, during the Hussite Wars, besieged it for four months in 1429, but found it a tough nut to crack and failed to take it. To protect against heavy artillery its walls were further strengthened
