"I have to agree with many of the reviews that Pentland Hotel is dated and in need of a full refurbishment. BUT... we arrived super late, and the person behind the desk couldn't have been kinder. I know the night staff was waiting for us to arrive, and couldn't close up until we got there. Then, our car died the next day, and we never felt any pressure to move our car or get our luggage out of the building; our suitcases were kept behind the desk for us while we walked around town, waiting for the mechanic to arrive. Breakfast staff had to accommodate 2 tour buses, but I was given a great table, and there was plenty of coffee and tea! And the wait staff took their time to check in on me, despite being so very very busy."
"I’ve never been greeted better than this! A clean, well kept lovely local place to get to when You’ve been travelling. Quiet, enjoyed opening the windows to hear the birds.
The food is top notch, in a local atmosphere (unlike chain places to stay) everyone who works there is more than accommodating, helpful and friendly. As a female solo traveller, highly recommend. Easily located walking distance from train station. Easily walking distance to attractions. Accommodated me to get to ferry. I would go again if I ever get back there."
"We were touring round north of Scotland. We stayed in five hotels. The Norsman was the best value for money.
The food was good and drinks were reasonably priced. All the staff were very helpful."
"1 night stay on my way to John O'Groats. Single room.
The host welcomed me at check-in and gave me all the relevant details, plus asked if I needed recommendations for dinner etc. Breakfast needed to be ordered via a form and left on the desk by 9pm. Option to choose from various cereals, drinks, cooked items etc. Breakfast was delivered to the room on time and was very tasty.
The room was well stocked with tea/coffee/biscuits etc.
The bed was comfortable and clean. The bed linen felt like it had been washed a few too many times though - in fact I would say this sums up the building as a whole - everything works but it is a little bit tired. Perfectly adequate for me though!
Private bathroom was across the hall from my room. Lots of space, plenty of hot water.
Overall perfectly pleasant stay and I would use again."
