Vig

Travel Guide

Enjoy the mile-long sandy beaches at Sejero Bugt bay, explore the lush nature reserve, or visit Denmark’s only UNESCO Global Geopark.

Vig is located in the northwestern part of Zealand, not far from the Danish Riviera and some of the best beaches in the country. Spend your holiday in Vig and enjoy this friendly holiday town with exciting activities on the agenda year round. Vig is renowned for its wildlife, with nature reserves such as the Hov Vig Naturreservat, where you can see flocks of migrating birds.

It’s also known far and wide for its music festival, the Vig Festival, which is held every year in July. Even if you’re travelling to Vig with the entire family, you can still enjoy the Vig Festival. The focus there is on creating a pleasant, enjoyable experience for the whole family. The festival attracts some 17,000 visitors and treats them to lots of well-known Danish bands, along with entertainment for guests of all ages.

The small railway town was established back in 1899 when the Odsherredsbanen line opened. Despite its modest size, Vig has a vibrant commercial and cultural life thanks to its idyllic location between the Isefjord inlet and the Sejero Bugt bay. The pristine beaches attract both holiday-goers and summer residents, adding a joie de vivre to the town you’ll really enjoy during your stay in Vig.

Vig has a charming town centre that includes Odsherred’s only cinema, the Vig Bio. The pleasant locale also serves as a café and eatery, so even if you’re not in the mood for a film, you can drop on in and soak up the vibrant atmosphere. Other highlights of any holiday or weekend getaway to Vig include the Vig Tuske-&Kraemmermarked (Vig carnival & flea market), the Hempel Glasmuseum, featuring the largest private glass collection in Northern Europe, or the well-preserved castle ruins from the Middle Ages, Kelstrup ruinen.

If you’ve got kids along on your trip to Vig, there’s something to keep everyone busy. Several attractions are located nearby, including the Brandbilmuseet (fire truck museum), the Sommerland Sjaelland amusement and water park, the Asnaes Svommehal aquatic centre, and the Odsherred Zoo Rescue. The latter is Denmark’s first combined zoo and rescue centre, housing 600 exotic animals representing over 100 species, including favourites like camels, zebras, ostriches, kangaroos, emus, and llamas. The trip to Vig is a bit less exotic as you just need to hop on the Odsherredbanen train to Vig station, which you can pick up from Kastrup airport in Copenhagen if you’re arriving from overseas.

Come to Vig for a relaxing holiday in charming, unspoiled surroundings.

"Hotel was very basic, bed was ok but far from the most comfortable. But, I didn’t book it for luxury, I booked it for a cheap room. The breakfast was mediocre at best, definitely not worth getting at about £18 a head for some bread, half a cup of coffee and a few slices of cheap ham."
