This property is very run and not well maintained. The service is also very poor, both upon check in and when just trying to order a drink. Definitely in need of a revamp and change of management. The only positive is the location.

The Ocean view from the room is great, and the staff was courteous and friendly. Upon arrival they offer a welcome drink, and take your luggage to the room, and also helped our driver to turn the car around. The view from the room was beautiful, the room was nice and clean. I didn't have any air condition issue as read in past reviews, the staff showed me how to turn on AC if it stopped when open the glass doors.Room service staff was extremely nice waited until we are ready, also on the day of checkout they let rest of my party wait in the room undisturbed until I returned from whale watching. The breakfast buffet was wonderful and they had a bag of breakfast ready early morning on the day I left for whale watching. I only have good things to say and highly recommend Sayura beach hotel.

One of the worst experience ever

Over-rated hôtel. Food: Limited choices and low quality. Confort: Room is good but bathroom is disappointing. Pool is located in the reception area (max 3 meters between the reception and the pool). Security: during the weekend a group of 15 men completely drunk blocked the reception and the access to the beach. Note that alcohol was served by the hotel. Beach access: can’t swim in the hotel area because of rocks. You have to walk 60 meters to reach private beach where you have to pay. Overall service is ok but the rest (confort, food and pool/beach) really disappointing. I don’t recommend this hotel at all.

This hotel is right on a very beautiful beach. Fine sand and a nice shallow protected area just adjacent to the hotel. Our room was large and had an excellent private ocean view balcony and i think all the rooms are on the ocean side. Clean, comfortable bed and pillows, decent TV with some good english channels. The price included a delicious buffet breakfast with lots of choices and an amazing ocean view. The restaurant is also pretty good for dinner and there are 3 or 4 other restaurants nearby with access from the beach. The only downside for us is that the road is narrow and very busy. There is no noticable road noise on the beach side or in the room but the road is not pleasant for walking. We rented a scooter from the hotel desk to get around in the area for a very low cost - but make sure you have an international motorbike licence because we were stopped by the police to check for license at least once a day.

Beach location

Rooms were big and comfortable. Bathroom good but no hand towels or washers or soap given. Service was excellent but very little English spoken. Location on beach were you could swim with turtles was priceless. Views fantastic. Some repairs needed in rooms.

The hotel was built in 2016 to a high specification but sadly it has not been maintained as such. The rooms are large and the balconies have a lovely view. The linen is clean and the staff are lovely and welcoming as they are all over Sri Lanka. However sadly our stay was not as comfortable as it could have been because of issues such as poorly draining sinks in bathroom, broken lights in bedside lamps and balcony. We unfortunately had storm weather over our 3 day stay which meant we had to spend more time in the hotel than we would have ordinarily planned to do but we didn’t feel we could use the pool or relax in the lounge due to the awkward layout and general lack of upkeep. The breakfast buffet was a good standard with a large variety and the meals from the al a carte menu were tasty and generous in size. There was always a strong smell of cooking in the hallways and on our balcony as we were on the 3rd floor which could be off putting for some guests. I did hesitate to write this review as I believe the hotel may be a victim of the tourist slump which is evident all over Sri Lanka but I feel that there are a few things that could be rectified which would improve the stay for guests -1. checking all lights for functioning 2. Fixing plumbing 3. Repainting and repairing lounge and dining area. 4. The pool area could be cleaned which some more privacy from the road, 5. Improved seating in the lounge for comfort.

Loved the beach

Awesome spot on our favourite beach. Wouldn’t consider it walking distance to Unawatuna but it’s easy to tuk tuk anywhere. Wouldn’t have wanted to stay anywhere else.

Location is a problem

This hotel has a problem with aggressive tuk tuk drivers and the staff is in on the price gouging. In Sri Lanka there is a local Uber service called 'Pickme'. When I checked out they asked if I need transportation. I told them, I'm waiting for my Pickme driver and they all disappeared. When I walked to the road a tuk driver asked if I needed a ride. I told him I'm waiting for my driver and things got very aggressive. He started threatening me and said the driver would not stop at this hotel for fear of assault. He was correct Pickme drivers know this hotel is running a scam and are afraid of the tuk drivers. I did meet my driver 100m down the road but it was not a pleasant experience. Do not support scams by staying at this hotel.

Property is on the beach. Out of lobby area one can walk on the beach. Rooms are big with big balcony overlooking the sea. It is like a private beach. Staff very helpful. They organized pick up and drop at slightly lesser rate. Driver Priyan was good driver and knowledgeable. Owner lives in the hotel and is very friendly. Hotel owns two tuk tuk which can be hired. Need to improve on bar and internet network.
