Don’t miss a trip to Chan Chan, the biggest pre-Columbian city in the Americas, located about 6 miles (10 kilometers) from Trujillo. Marvel at the mud-brick temples and palaces built by pre-Inca cultures such as the Chimú and Moche people. Chan Chan is also home to some of South America’s most significant pyramids, including Huaca del Arco Iris and Huaca del Sol.
With warm year-round temperatures, Trujillo’s beaches are ever-popular. Make the short drive to Huanchaco, a onetime peaceful fishing village that is now a favorite hangout for backpackers and surfers.
