La Citadelle de Marrakech

"A lovely hotel, well maintained with lots of history and some stunning decor. Nadia and her husband (Geward?), are brilliant hosts and, together with the other staff, make it a relaxing, fun and most enjoyable place to stay. Clean hotel, with lovely gardens, with loads of secret/secluded places to have lunch or just retreat from the sun for a bit and the food is amazing. We will definitely be coming back, even if it is just for a long weekend. Me and my partner wanted a weeks break away, where we could relax and destress, and we got that and more at this hotel. We had a jacuzzi bath in our room, which was wonderful, but note that there is no steam room, gym or full service spa (Expedia - please update your information) - although you can go for a run in the area around the hotel and Nadia will be very happy to organise and book treatments at her favourite spa, which the Hammam and zen massage she arranged for us was amazing!"

It’s rare to find such a relaxing space with a beautiful swimming pool. I was a little apprehensive spending five days here alone, without a car, but I needn’t have worried. Julia arranged transfers and Layla’s delicious authentic meals were just perfect. Julia is really attentive and sensitive to guests needs and is always on hand if required; her friendliness and hospitality was very much appreciated. Lovely bedding, great pillows and plenty of hot water (although not required in this heat) and air conditioning, all with great company, what more could you ask for! There is also the added bonus of having the dogs around. Julia always checks if this is ok and they can be relocated elsewhere if required. Personally they added to the experience and they were welcomed visitors. In short, if you are looking for an authentic place, where you are welcomed and you can relax and swim in beautiful surroundings, meeting great people then this is for you. Many thanks to Julia and her team, I still miss you all and hope to be back soon. Take special attention when Julia is explaining taps, as hot water is boiling, kids will need supervision to avoid scalding. This would be the same anywhere. Again, many thanks for such a wonderful stay. 😍"

"I came with my husband for honey moon, the staff were amazing they made up the room for us with flowers and nice decoration for our arrival, Sana was really nice and helpful, and all staff without exception. The hotel was so clean the food amazing and it’s like home made. It’s more advisable for romantic stay, very quiet and nice scenery from the balcony especially at night. Also I would advise people to have their own car to be able to commute to Marakesh or go to nearby places as it’s a bit in the middle of nowhere. Very much recommended, you won’t be disappointed ."

"Overall, the property is beautiful. The architecture and decor is lovely and I presume authentic to Morocco. The food was fine (really enjoyed the tagine). There needs to be some repair and maintenance done but for what we paid, I have no complaints. The owner was accommodating when we asked to switch rooms. He moved us to a bigger, better room. As it was my birthday, Karim (the concierge) arranged with his boss to decorate the room and supplied a cake too. I was pleasantly surprised. The staff are the best aspect of our stay here! Attentive, friendly, accommodating and deserve 5* and more. If you are travelling here, it would be advisable to use your own transport or budget for taxis in and out of the area. It is quite isolated."
