  • Joseph Winthrop Holley, born in 1874 to former slaves in Winnsboro, South Carolina, founded the institution in 1903 as the Albany Bible and Manual Training Institute. W. E. B. Du Bois inspired Holley to return to the South after he read Du Bois's writings on the plight of Albany's blacks in The Souls of Black Folk. Holley relocated to Albany to start a school. With the help of a $2,600 gift from the Hazard family, Holley organized a board of trustees and purchased 50 acres (200,000 m2) of land for the campus, all within a year. The aim of the institution at the time was to provide elementary education and teacher training for the local Black population. It was turned over to the state of Georgia in 1917 as Georgia Normal and Agricultural College, a two-year agricultural and teacher-training institution. In 1932, the school became part of the University System of Georgia and in 1943 it was granted four-year status and renamed Albany State College. The transition to four-year status heavily increased the school's enrollment. In 1981 the college offered its first graduate program, a prelude to the school being upgraded to university status in 1996.

Easy check in, dog friendly, first floor option. We stayed one night for a break in driving. Everything was fine, beds comfortable and clean, room clean, good amenities.

The property is in decent condition. My room appeared to be clean. Although with any aging motel, there are signs of distress, but Management seems to attempt to keep up with it not a great location in my opinion. All of the chain fast food restaurants are in the area which makes it nice. The staff at the desk were friendly and check in was prompt.

Checkin was slow - not sure what took so long.We had reservations & room was prepaid. Reserved a king but got two double beds. Room was clean. Bed & pillows were comfortable. I didnt see breakfast but we left early.

A little sketchy

Burn holes in bedspread and sheet. Went to take a shower and the handle of the shower fell off. You could tell it was just put on not affixed to the shower valve. Office staff was great. Wouldn’t usually have stayed here but we needed somewhere to close our eyes after 17 hours of driving.

Ok, cheap, Clean room, awful breakfast, great gues

I’ll admit the hotel is rather but kept up. I got a non smoking king. A lot of clean up was done in the room, tv was new flat screen, but towel, clothes and older holders were old and pitting. No stopper in sink. A/c was an under window model, worked well, but realllllly smelled of age. ( Some air freshener & a vehicle tree did the trick. The room was not moldy, Carpet was new and clean. I did my UV LIGHT CHECK and didn’t find any dirty linens, chairs, or carpet. Breakfast left a whole lot to be desired. Just make your own waffles with butter and cereal, or cereal. Coffee was there but no juice, ice cold water or anything else. Overall I give them a 7 out of 10 because it was safe, clean, easy to get in and out of, great guest service,. Definately needs some upgrades, and better breakfast choices. But for the price it works well.. They allow pets but is $10 per nigh, per pet. Could be quite expensive.. Dr. Jammer

DO NOT stay here. It is cheap for a reason. We just wanted some where off the highway, quick to get a couple of hours if sleep, and that DiD NOT HAPPEN. The toielt seat lid was cracked, with chunk out if it, the carpet was grose. The beds looked clean, so I told my self, it was just a place to sleep for a couple of hours. Laid down and the noise started around 9:30pm, just as we were trying to fall asleep. Dogs barking, kids screaming, mom screaming at the kids. Then they were moving furniture in the room off from there truck. Going in amd out of truck slamming doors. We kept thinking it would stop and it wouldnt. We packed up our napsacks and went to office to complain and check out and get our money back. The owner said yes he would give me my money back, but i had to call expedia and get them to call the owner to issue the refund. After muple times with messaging expedia and me calling owner, they would not give me my money back. Lesson learnt, i will never staying in a hotel owned by this chain again.

The room was fine, except we reserved a King bed and when we checked in, we were told they didn't have any King Beds. After some discussion, we agreed to a double bed room. We had to call the front desk because no one gave us the password for the wifi when we checked in. While the room was alright, the overall facility and the neighborhood needs some TLC
