Pentland

Pentland

8/10 Good
"I have to agree with many of the reviews that Pentland Hotel is dated and in need of a full refurbishment. BUT... we arrived super late, and the person behind the desk couldn't have been kinder. I know the night staff was waiting for us to arrive, and couldn't close up until we got there. Then, our car died the next day, and we never felt any pressure to move our car or get our luggage out of the building; our suitcases were kept behind the desk for us while we walked around town, waiting for the mechanic to arrive. Breakfast staff had to accommodate 2 tour buses, but I was given a great table, and there was plenty of coffee and tea! And the wait staff took their time to check in on me, despite being so very very busy."

"I’ve never been greeted better than this! A clean, well kept lovely local place to get to when You’ve been travelling. Quiet, enjoyed opening the windows to hear the birds. The food is top notch, in a local atmosphere (unlike chain places to stay) everyone who works there is more than accommodating, helpful and friendly. As a female solo traveller, highly recommend. Easily located walking distance from train station. Easily walking distance to attractions. Accommodated me to get to ferry. I would go again if I ever get back there."

Bettyhill Hotel

8/10 Good
"Wonderful staff - could not have done more to help or be more friendly! There was a good selection of food but I found it overpriced for what it was - mains start at £20. It's classic type food which was cooked well but not outstanding. The room and bathroom were incredibly clean and well presented. The bed was slightly uncomfortable, though and I couldn't help but think that an investment in new mattresses would go a long way, especially for tired travellers after a long day! Otherwise, this was a wonderful hotel in a great location if you're doing the NC500."
