"Very friendly and helpful staff. Large spacious well equipped bedroom with all the amenities that you would need. Maybe could do with a coffee table to eat your breakfast hamper off and a hook on the back of the bathroom door A wonderful stay and very good value for money."

"The hotel has its own car park, free for guests. At reception it was over quarter of an hour before anyone responded to give a room key to the guest who was waiting before us, and then to check us in. We had to repeat details such as car registration which had already been provided in the online pre-registration. Nonetheless staff were very friendly. There are no lifts and only 2 ground floor rooms so this hotel is probably not for people with mobility issues. The bathroom was larger than most and was clean. The bedroom was extremely compact for a double room, with barely space to squeeze past the end of the bed. This was a one-night stay so we did not use other hotel facilities. The hotel is very conveniently located on the picturesque Market Square with its restaurants and several pubs for dinner and cafes for breakfast. (In the morning we noticed a line of mobility scooters outside the bakery next door so that seems to be the go-to breakfast spot.) There is also the main bus stop, with buses to surrounding villages and York, as well as a taxi stand."

"The room was nice & clean , a bonus was the air conditioning as it was hot weather . We also ate evening meal there which was ok , breakfast was plentiful with a good choice . We only stayed one night on our way to Scotland & our daughter & family met us there to complete the journey . What was nice was that they were able to park & use the hotel for food / drinks etc . Thankyou we appreciated that 😊"

"The hotel still looks great from the outside. The bar, lounges and reception looking modern and clean. But the room I had felt dated and in need of a fresh decoration. Wallpaper coming lose on the ceiling. Floorboards lose. Bathroom you could see sealant had been applied many times around the bath to stop leaks. I may be looking at the details to much, but newer hotels you do not see any repair jobs. Breakfast was great as well. Just needs some TLC in some of the bedrooms, to bring back to the high standard you expect from this hotel."

"We booked the cottage and were so glad we did. The photos although good, don’t really do it justice. The bedroom opens out onto a spacious balcony with good quality wooden table and chairs. The view is very serene, as you can see the river. The hot tub is really amazing. It was very clean and we were shown how to use it properly. If anything it was a little hot at 40c. It kept this heat for several hours. Bathroom was beautiful. Living room immaculate. And a 2nd bathroom with toilet and shower. Alison warmly greeted us on arrival and her partner Andrew helped out with showing us the room. They are both extremely friendly, polite, professional and hardworking people. We had one meal in the restaurant. We ordered the halloumi sticks for a starter and they were absolutely divine. My friend had the stew for her main and I had the Yorkshire pie pudding. They were both seasoned well. The meat was tender enough for me and it was plentiful. The Yorkshire pudding didn’t taste like a Yorkshire pudding. Or a pie. It was quite tough and quite tasteless. Which gutted me because it’s one of my favourite things to eat. The prices were reasonable. The wait time for the starter wasn’t bad, at 25mins, but we waited for the main for a long time. About 1.30hrs after ordering. Which is too long to wait, but apologies were made. I suspect this is understaffing. Overall we absolutely loved our stay! We wouldn’t hesitate to come back. It’s set in a beautiful location, which is quiet and pleasant."
