2. Harvard University

The oldest and most famous university in the United States, Harvard University has been educating the country’s brightest young minds since it was founded in 1636. Along with seven other prestigious academic institutes in the north east, Harvard University is a member of the USA’s Ivy League group of schools. The term “Ivy League” was created in the 1930s for a college football competition, and refers to the presence of the ivy plant on the university buildings.

3. Boston Common

One of the city’s most popular attractions, the large Boston Common is as popular with Boston’s residents as it is with visitors. Covering over 20 hectares, the Common is the ideal place to take a walk, have a picnic or enjoy one of the musical performances or events that are held here throughout the year. The famous Freedom Trail also starts at Boston Common, along which you can visit a number of points of interest from the American Revolution.

4. Copley Square

Part of the wealthy Back Bay neighbourhood, Copley Square is a charming green square steeped in history. Historical buildings and the grand Copley Square Fountain form the backdrop for families, friends and office workers who come to relax on the grass and enjoy the great atmosphere. The Square plays host to a large famers market twice a week, and is a good place to sample the diverse local food.
