Most of those who visit Czech Republic head straight to Prague which is undoubtedly as beautiful as famous. However, very few travelers ever leave the capital and know about located on the other side of the country, near the Polish border, Adrspach-Teplice Rock Town. It's not a "town" meaning a settlement built by people. The "town" is made naturally of huge rock formations that take the shape of pillars, columns, walls and labyrinths. The woodland that weaves through the rock town looks almost mythical, some trees have dramatic roots, it almost reminds me of Harry Porter

No doubt you’ve heard of Bohemian Paradise and Bohemian Switzerland, but have you heard of the Adršpach-Teplice rock towns? Despite being arguably one of the most beautiful and unique places in the Czech Republic, the Adršpach -Teplice rock towns are often overlooked in favour of the more popular Bohemian Paradise.

Located in northeast Bohemia, close to the Polish border, these incredible sandstone rock towns, one on the edge of Adršpach village, and the other closer to Teplice nad Metuji, were naturally formed thousands of years ago. Perhaps few will be aware that this was once the bottom of the ocean! When the chalk receded in these places, two groups of rock formations were left, divided by the Wolf Gorge.

You truly feel as though you are exploring an alien planet here. Walking through the massive labyrinth of rocks is a unique and memorable experience. Look up at the rock formations with a bit of imagination, and you might even be able to spot the hidden images. Look out for the “lovers”, the congregation of elephants at the elephant’s square, the lioness, the turtle, the eagle’s nest, and many more.

The area of Adršpach-Teplice rocks is accessible all year-round. The distance from Prague is around 170 km and it takes around two and a half hours to drive there.

If you don’t drive, you can take the train from Prague to Trutnov, and then from there change to another train for Teplice nad Metují. If you are heading to Adršpach first, get off the train at Adrspach station, and if you’re heading for the Teplice rocks, get off at Teplice nad Metují-skály.

The journey by train, however, take up to 4 hours. For those who don’t have a car, the best and by far the easiest way to get to the park and enjoy the day is to go with a tour group.
