While traveling in northwest Iceland, somewhere on the road to Saudarkrokur, we stopped to visit a horse farm owned by Hrossaraektarbuio Varmlaekur. No, I can only hope the spelling is correct.

While there, we got to see this special breed of horse (they're developed solely in Iceland, where horses are forbidden from being imported, and any horses exported are not allowed to return) demonstrate the two extra gaits special to this breed, the tolt and the pace gait, or flying pace, when the horse reaches upwards of 30 mph.

Both extra gaits offer a very smooth, comfortable ride. At one point, the rider went around the track brandishing a full glass of beer without spilling a drop as his horse performed the pace gait. It was a sight to see.
