From Paranagua there is a boat that goes to Ilha do Mel twice a day. 2h, all locals on board. Probably knowing each other since forever. Everyone couldn’t stop looking at me. It was funny, I felt comfortable and curios to know what were they thinking of a curly tired girl with 2 backpacks and a young face. I fell asleep as all passengers, sun kissed and wave hugged.
This picture is what I first saw and I opened my eyes, I couldn’t believe this will be my home for the next days...
When I was backpacking in Brazil, all people I met where going to Ilha Grande and Rio de Janeiro. I was the only one having Curitiba,Paranagua and Ilha do Mel on my travel plan. At the beginning I was wondering why none of the millions backpackers that crossed my path was doing my same route. But when I handled to Paranagua I stopped wondering and start living my adventure. I was probably the only stranger around and I liked it. People where very excited for the coming carnival and really busy preparing the parade. I felt the quietness of locals in my soul and their smiles in my heart. I was sitting in a bar, none could speak English or Spanish, but I was laughing with the waitress about a crazy guy passed by. We’ve been friends for a minute. No WiFi, I got a juice with a strange name, no idea what was in it, I liked it. A man form Portugal started cheating with me, he had really nice and inspiring stories to tell. His eyes, lost eyes of a life full of feelings.
