Things to do in Moche

Trujillo Plaza de Armas is the historic heart of Trujillo, a large public square bordered by buildings bequeathed by Spanish colonists. Come here to admire the architecture, to be part of annual festivals and to relax on a bench under the shade of a tree.

Huanchaco is an easygoing Pacific Ocean beach town, popular with surfers and close to many historical sites. Learn to surf, tour an ancient city and enjoy seafood specialties in the many fish restaurants.

Step inside the high walls of Chan Chan and experience one of Peru’s most significant archaeological sites. Follow walkways to temples, palaces and tombs, all expertly built using sundried mud bricks. Admire the intricate artwork and craftsmanship of the Chimú, Peru’s biggest pre-Incan empire.

Elegant 17th-century architecture and a wonderful collection of colonial artwork make the Trujillo Cathedral (Catedral de Trujillo) one of the city’s must-see attractions. The church dominates the north side of the Plaza de Armas, the main square and heart of Trujillo’s historic center.

Peru’s ancient civilizations come to life at the Huaca de la Luna (Temple of the Moon). Admire this ancient architectural masterpiece and examine its collection of superbly preserved frescoes. The pyramid temple is part of the Huacas de Moche, an archaeological complex that was once the center of the Moche culture. The site dates back to the late 5th and early 6th centuries and also includes the Huaca del Sol (Temple of the Sun) and a museum.
