Cheviot & Hedgehope from Cochrane Pike Taken from the same location as 1799561 but zoomed into the high Cheviot hills, still carrying snow patches. Hartside Farm, in the Breamish valley, is almost central. Linhope is to its left, hidden by trees. This whole area is covered in well preserved remains of settlements dating back to the Bronze Age.
Bronze Age burial cairn north-east of Wether Law View south-west to the hill-fort. Excavation in 1997 revealed a round cairn surrounded by a low stone wall. The cairn was thought to be of Bronze Age type but no burial traces or pits were found. The cairn had been opened by a robber trench in the medieval period http://ads.ahds.ac.uk/catalogue/search/fr.cfm?rcn=NSMR03-3227 Fairly close to the cairn, excavation between 1994 and 2003 found evidence for timber buildings dated to the middle or late Iron Age. A timber-lined coffin, discovered by chance contained the remains of at least five Bronze Age pots, one of which has been reconstructed and on display at the Ingram National Park Centre http://ads.ahds.ac.uk/catalogue/collections/nsmr03abstracts/3226.html
