"Had a lovely stay at Windsor cottage. Well presented, great amenities and the most comfortable bed in the master bedroom. Slept like a log! Ate out in local restaurants, which were lovely especially Alberto’s Italy. There are a couple of free parking areas in town 5-10 minutes away. During our stay there was a film set in place for Father Brown and a restriction at the end of the road. It didn’t take away from our stay, but was glad of the premier inn parking just a 100m away. "Well, the location is very good overlooking the lakes. However, the rooms and staff are a mess. Starting with the room, the shower screen was broken and flooded the floor, the safe had no batteries, the headboard was hanging off the wall, the balcony was filthy and the furniture falling apart. I tried calling housekeeping and reception to report the problems but no answer after 15 minutes on each. I finally gave up and went down to reception to report the problems, no action taken despite reminding a further 2 times. Room not made up on second day, reported this again and was told it would it would be made up immediately. Never was. The decking around the outside of the hotel was nice but needs stinging nettles and weeds removing that are growing through. Paid £80 for a few hours in the spa only to find it full of kids. Don’t get me wrong, kids enjoy a pool but having paid £80 for my wife and I it was less than relaxing. On the plus side the food was good, especially the steaks with peppercorn sauce. All in all rather disappointing as the place could have been so much better."
