Learn more about Sutton

Nestled beneath the towering Chugach Mountains, this alpine town offers spectacular hiking on the Matanuska Peak Trail and glacier viewing opportunities. Outdoor enthusiasts can fish for salmon in nearby Matanuska River or visit the historic Sutton Coal Washery site for a glimpse into Alaska's mining past.

At 27 miles long by 4 miles wide, it is the largest glacier accessible by car in the United States. While taking a guided tour with my friend, we walked through hundreds of feet of vein like tunnels of ice, we ended up in a wide opening that had one of the most beautiful reflections I have ever seen/photographed in my life.
