"Black Elk Resort is a MUST for your Black Hills stay! We stayed in Tatanka. The cabins are immaculately clean. The bedding is great quality. The staff feels like family from the moment you arrive. Complimemtary coffee and waffles in the morning - so simple yet so much like HOME. Tap room has just enough of a variety for everyone in your group. Great drink prices too! Great rates and superb location. We will make this our mainstay from now on. "

"We visited the first week in May 2026. The first room they gave us, on the ground floor, had a window with a broken lock. The room also had poor lighting. They moved us to another room on the ground floor. The window locked but the door wouldn’t latch or lock reliably. The third room was fine. One of the staff said they just “took back the hotel” and were getting to know it. It definitely needs maintenance. The hot tub was in a separate building. We didn’t use it. The breakfast was limited to tiny danishes and dry cereal."

"The hotel was very clean and well kept. Our room was comfortable and everything worked. The jacuzzi was relaxing and the shower spray great! We also loved the pool and hot tub! Parking was very convenient as well. We will definitely stay there again!"

The owners helped us with directions and restaurants. A bit of road noise, but the conversations made you forget it. They are improving the lodge & cabins every year."
