"From the free water and free breakfast (and 5E credit towards a "welcome drink"), this value-conscious hotel delivers comfort and convenience to the road-weary traveler. Front desk staffed by at least one fluent English speaker, generous breakfast buffet with leisurely weekend hours. Spacious bathroom with walk-out shower. Parking adjacent to hotel. After a week of Air BnB key exchanges and post-stay clean ups, it was nice to stay in a real hotel for a change. The restaurant had a series of eight colorful (abstract-ish) portraits that caught our attention. When none of the other guests could identify the subjects, we checked with the front desk, who promptly gave us the information we wanted: The "Kunst faces" of the Bauhaus movemet (early 20th century) included Wassily Kandinski, Walter Gropius, Gertrud Arndt, Paul Klee, Laszio Mohly-Nagy, Gunta Stolzi, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Lyonel Feininger, and Brund Taut. The Anger Museum with its delightful variety of wood and stone sculptures is situated in the middle of the old part of the city at the crossroads made by the Bahnhofstrasse and the Anger. It was built between 1706 and 1712 as a packing and weighing station both for Philipp Wilhelm Reichsgraf von Boineburg, the governor of the city and for Archbishop Lothar Franz von Schönborn. It is one of the most important early 18th century buildings. The museum was founded in 1886 to house the artworks that the city of Erfurt had inherited from one of its most famous sons, the Romantic painter Friedrich Nerly.
