South Pointe Park

A beach with people, a lifeguard tower, and a boat in the water.
A cityscape with modern high-rise buildings, a palm tree-lined pathway, and a grassy area.
A coastal resort with multi-story buildings and a speedboat on the water.
A sandy beach path leading to the ocean, flanked by wooden railings and tall grass.
A sandy beach with a wooden walkway, green foliage, and a clear sky.

Get away from the hot South Beach sun on the lawns and under the palms of a renovated boardwalk with views of Biscayne Bay.

“Peaceful” may be a difficult word to characterize any of Miami Beach, but it might be appropriate for South Pointe Park. Covering acres at the very southern edge of the island, the park is full of amenities and is the perfect place to cool down and enjoy a stroll. Follow the beach all the way down and sit on a bench or in one of the seafront restaurants to watch people walking past and boats bobbing in the water.

Meander around the marina at the western end of the park, full of gleaming white boats against the backdrop of Downtown Miami. Watch as their sails unfurl and they slice through the calm water, heading for the bay and the Atlantic Ocean farther out. Stroll down the path, well shaded by palm trees and edged by sea grape bushes, lending a tropical atmosphere to the walkway. Relax on one of the benches, perfect for cooling off during a long day under the sun.

On one of Miami’s famous summer days, let kids have fun and get exercise at the playground, which has water features that are incredibly popular. Rent bikes and ride through the park. Get to the end and walk out onto the partially covered pier, which offers views of Biscayne Bay, Fisher Island and the Atlantic Ocean. Throw a lure over the edge and fish in the deep waters or just bring some steaks to barbecue in Miami’s evening light.

South Pointe Park is at the very southern edge of Miami Beach, at the end of Ocean Drive and the Miami Beachwalk. Get here from central South Beach in about 25 minutes on foot or a few minutes by car. Drive from the airport in about 25 minutes or ride the bus in just under an hour. Little Havana is a 20-minute drive away. Use the on-site parking lot or street parking in the vicinity, though this can get crowded during beach season.

The park is freely accessible from dawn to early evening, but the walkway stays open into the early morning.
