Sør-Trøndelag offers visitors fantastic coastal and woodland scenery, with several national parks located nearby.

If you choose to holiday in Sør-Trøndelag, you can explore the breathtaking delights of the area’s natural beauty in the beautiful Dovrefjell-Sunndalsfjella National Park. Head inland to Røros and experience the famous mountain town, or alternatively, head towards the coast to experience the sea and life on the coast. Sør-Trøndelag is a large county that has plenty of activities, sights and magical, natural surroundings to enchant tourists from all parts of the world.

The area is steeped in history, and the fertile, rich landscape around Trondheimsfjorden was one of the main reasons why people chose to settle here thousands of years ago. Trondheim, or Nidaros as it was then known, was a crucial seat of power in the Viking Era. Nowadays, Trondheim remains the largest city in the county and more than half of the population lives in or around the city.

The landscape in this area is simply magical and there are several places of interest to visit when heading to Sør-Trøndelag. Røros Church is a sight famous from many postcards. The Pirbadet water park in Trondheim is well worth a visit, as is Nidaros Cathedral. There are also several museums on offer, such as the Ringve Museum, the Trøndelag Folk Museum and the Røros Museum. If travelling with children, make sure to visit the Vitensenteret science centre in Trondheim for hours and hours of scientific fun!

Sør-Trøndelag currently comprises 25 municipalities and spans almost 7,500 square miles. Of course, if you want to visit everything, you may need to book a long holiday indeed!

The nearest major airport is Værnes, situated in Nord-Trøndelag. Sør-Trøndelag has two smaller airports: Røros and Ørland. It might be easiest to find suitable flights to Værnes. From there, there are good connections around Europe, including from the UK.

Sør-Trøndelag allows you to experience most of what Norwegian nature has to offer, from coastal stretches to fjords, and from inland areas to magnificent mountain ranges. You can simply pick what you want to see, whether that is the great outdoors or one of Norway's largest cities.

"In Norway, picking up the keys of a property is always a bit tricky. You never know how to get your keys to access a flat or a house. Most of times, I wasted a lot of time to figure it out because it is never the same way. Thanks for such experiences."
