HOTEL MYSTAYS Hakodate Station
8/10 Good
"The location is brilliant - right across from the JR station and parking right next door (¥700 per night self parking so unlimited entry/exit). Very good for local restaurants, the morning market and close to tram stop to visit other attractions in the local area.
The room was clean and comfortable, with a smart TV installed. The pillows weren’t great for us but not too bad.
We had breakfast at the buffet each day and it was fresh and tasty. Loved them having local Hakodate yoghurt and milk products. That was a lovely touch!
My only downside of the whole experience was at check in the staff were busy so the attentions wasn’t there. I went to approach the desk after waiting in line and was rudely told to wait for a self check in station instead. It didn’t worry me to use one - however it was a little confusing as it only allowed me to scan 2 passports out of our 4 guests so then I wasn’t able to ask questions about the breakfast vouchers and additional charges it insisted I pay for. Just would have been nice to have the staff be there for that to make the experience smoother.
The breakfast staff were always lovely!"
"After a few busy days in Tokyo, it was a nice change of pace to be in Hakodate. The hotel is in a great location that’s walking distance from the train station. And also to the brick warehouse shopping area and fish market. We also used the onsen at the hotel. It’s included in your stay. It was our very first time for our family. We didn’t know there was a little tote bag we could take up with us to the onsen. Also remember to bring a towel from your room. I wanted to book a massage but it was fully booked. You have to pay separately for the massage. Rates were very reasonable. Plan ahead next time. We also enjoyed the breakfast buffet which was excellent. They are famous for the seafood parfait with ikura, shrimp, salmon, tuna. There’s also Wagyu too at the breakfast. Definitely worth it for around $23 usd per person. We would definitely come back again."
"Having stayed here multiple times, I would say this is one of the best hotels in Japan. The breakfast is one of the best breakfast buffets and the hotel service is excellent. It is great to have a private balcony onsen at a reasonable price and with a very large room compared to other cities. The only inconvenience is that the hotel location is a bit far from the city centre, but you can easily get there via public transit or taxi with little traffic or delay.
I would suggest two things for improving this hotel. First, they could use some English language labelling in your room (for explaining what certain buttons do, etc), given the high amount of foreign tourists visiting this hotel (from Asia and other areas, but they would all presumably be able to read English). Second, some kind of option to lower the temperature in the private onsen would be helpful because it is very hot. We realized you can use water from the cold tap in the shower to lower it a bit, but there should have been a little wash tub in the shower room that could be filled up and used for this purpose."
"A very pleasant stay. Good location. Friendly, efficient staff. Room was clean and spacious. Cleaning scheduled every 3 days, although towels replaced daily if requested. Aircon was set for the whole hotel, so not adjustable in your room. The temperature was ok, but I found it a little warm when in bed and couldn't open the window to let any cool air in either.
Overall though, good value and recommended."
