Hotel Bannatyne Durham

6/10 Okay

"Stayed here expecting high end, unfortunately I felt disappointed. Hotel seemed somewhat dated and in need of an uplift. The Bannatyne club was completely separate from the hotel and was the other side of the carpark. If booked directly with hotel I think the club is complementary, unfortunately if not it incurs a £15 supplement per day. Hotel only offers a small selection of bottled drinks, crisps and chocolate. All other food is in the separate club building. Staff were un-engaging and checking took longer than it should have. Double bed was 2 single beds pushed together and could feel the join, toilet flush wasn’t the best and the room/toilet looked a little tired. Could hear the road noise but not too bad with window closed."

"Room was spotlessly clean (apart from some mould on the shower strip). Comfortable room and plenty of space, nice and quiet. Only gripe is the room was very hot, a small fan was provided in the room but had little effect. Breakfast was very good, the continental was plentiful and the got breakfast was cooked well. Didn't eat in the dining room but the bar staff where we had drinks were all very nice. Lovely building to explore."

"Okay but very corporate and a disgrace you have to pay £15 to park in their carpark overnight. Ridiculous it’s £16 each for breakfast or £29 for room service breakfast for one?? Drinks extortionate - £16 for small wine and a pint??? Get a grip folks! Wetherspoons is just the other side of the bridge - greed will be your downfall "

"This is a lovely hotel, with very well equipped rooms for disabled guests. The staff are friendly, helpful and welcoming. For those with a blue badge, only 2 spaces outside can be an issue at times, when there are more guests with blue badges than can be accommodated. For other drivers, they should be advised they will have to park in the car park opposite at a cost of £5 per day. The breakfast was good but always a bit cold. Disappointing not to be able to get anything different, such as sandwiches, at lunchtime, but only the same menu as in the evening. "
