San Simeon hotel rooms a the Independent

"Breakfast was great, chef was attentive to the food to make sure it was fresh and not putting too much out at one time. Very well done with the breakfast staff, we were a party of 11 and we all had a nice meal together. Thank you! Room was nice and clean, the bed was extremely comfortable and appreciated. Staff was great from the front desk to chef. Bar was good too. "

"The bathroom didn’t have a countertop. It was just a stand alone sink. I had nowhere to put all my stuff. I tried to change rooms but was told because I paid in advance that I would be chargers $40 per night. The breakfast is pretty darn good with a good variety. There was quite a bit of noise where we were it was just a couple doors down from housekeeping so maybe that was it. Overall it’s a good price & great location. "

"Nice location, right for the price. Cleanliness was ok found a couple dead bugs on the bed. Looked like sheets hadnt been changed, desk chair was old and falling apart. They sent someone to change the sheets. Great outside amenities. The second night we could get into our room after walking back and forth 3 different changes of keys, finally almost 1hr going back n forth and needed to use the restroom they sent someone to fix it and get us in the room. Just real inconvenience having to walk back and forth to the office. Parking was good, enjoyed the bomb fire. "

"The hot tub was hot enough but being a Saturday night three were a lot of noisy kids having fun. I went back in the morning at quieter hours. Dog friendly hotel but not allowed in pool area so my wife and I had to take turns or put her in the car. Dogs also not allowed in the room by themselves quite reasonable. The place was clean and well run with staff behind the scenes. Sometimes returning late from dinner you lose your spot by your door but there’s always a spot somewhere on the street a short walk away. We come for the price in San Simeon. Monterey can be twice as much. We always eat at Big Sur. Been meaning to try manta ray a little more expensive for a special occasion. "

"I missed seeing information that the property lacked an elevator for my second floor room, but everything was fine. In fairness, I was too tired to request a change and do not know if first floor accommodation was available."
