Best Western Carlsbad by the Sea

"2 Stars for motel, 5 stars for the staff. The staff was very welcoming and very friendly, but from there everything else was very underwhelming. Small dark room, cheap wobbly furniture, sticky carpet, sloppy paint job. Thin cheap towels, looked clean, but didn’t smell freshly laundered. They do provide decent body wash, shampoo & conditioner, and body lotion. And thankfully the bedding was clean, and smelled laundered. The property itself was dirty and poorly kept. The complementary breakfast had plenty of food, However if you have any dietary restrictions, there were no non-diary options of milk or yogurt, and no healthy oatmeal toppings like nuts/seeds, fresh berries, cinnamon, etc. There was some fresh whole fruits available, so that was nice. And the location is within walking distance to the beach, which was also nice. Bottom line, if you’re only staying a night or two on your way somewhere else, and don’t want to pay a fortune, this would be an ok choice. I would not recommend this motel for vacations or an extended stay. But just to end on a good note, the staff was great!"

"My family and I spent the day at LegoLand and decided to book Carlsbad By The Sea for a short stay-cation. The main lobby is currently under construction but the temporary lobby was easy to find via signs. The receptionist was warm, kind, and professional. Check-in was very simple! Our room was clean and the beds were comfortable. Our 3 year old especially enjoyed the heated pool and jacuzzi. We were able to walk across the parking lot to the Windmill food hall, where we had many dining options. The hotel is also located across the street from Carlsbad Outlets and right by the freeway. Overall, great location, great pricing, courteous staff, CLEAN room. Highly recommend!"

"Told we were getting a golf course view - they put us in a basement room with no view whatsoever, the view was a window well. The kid activities are not free, everything is an additional fee. We were also told housekeeping was coming on the third day of our stay, they did not show up. The fire alarm kept going off after we showered unless we kept the bathroom door shut. "

"Beautiful place to stay! Loved being near the beach, and walkable to many great restaurants. We weren’t impressed with the Piper Restaurant, but the Shore Room was very nice with excellent drinks. This resort is very family friendly, who co is great for families, but there were many screaming and running kids around the common areas and swimming pool and especially in the hot tub, even though the sign says go 12 and older."
