"Hospitality is tested not when everything goes perfectly, but when travel plans go awry. Arriving in Oak Harbor, Washington at 1:00 a.m. usually guarantees a groggy reception, but at The Auld Holland Inn, it brought out the absolute best in Whidbey Island lodging. The owner/manager, Eric, accommodated our late arrival with a warmth and grace that immediately melted away our hours of travel fatigue. The properties that leave the most lasting impressions are those with distinct character. Our room was a beautifully preserved, classic retreat-spacious, immaculately clean, and radiating an old-world, Dutch-themed charm. Unlike many modern, sterile hotel chains where aesthetics overshadow functionality, everything here worked seamlessly. From the perfectly chilled refrigerator and microwave to the excellent water pressure in the hot shower, flat-screen TV, coffee maker, and powerful blow dryer, no detail was overlooked. To top it off, the bed offered pure, plush comfort that ensured a flawless night’s rest. The inn serves as an incredible base camp for exploring the Pacific Northwest, strategically located near Deception Pass State Park, Fort Ebey, and Fort Casey. Our island adventure eventually called us onward, cutting our four-day reservation short by one night to continue sightseeing further up the coast. Showing their true colors, management went above and beyond by gracefully refunding our final, unused night. I will return. I give them my highest possible recommendation!!!"

"Clean room and quiet inside hotel. Older hotel that they are hopefully still remodeling because there were many drywall patches on wall that still needed to be painted and markings on the wall where they wanted furniture placed. Did hear cars out on the road racing or doing doughnuts in some close by parking lot on friday night. Staff friendly. Breakfast was ok."

"My wife and I live just north of the border, and we visit Bellingham often to come down to do a little bit of shopping as well as to eat at a couple of our favorite restaurants. We always stay at this property. My wife has a disability and so we always book the accessible room with the roll in shower. We consistently have a good stay here. Unlike a lot of other places along the I-5, you don’t have homeless problems here which is something you really need to be careful of. We’ve stayed at some other places in Bellingham in proximity to the I-5and they are horrible. Crackheads everywhere. Not the case here. The hotel itself is clean, the property is clean, attentive front desk staff, a decent breakfast, coffee and tea 24 hours a day, with lots of amenities within a mile radius. As I said, we enjoy staying here as it is consistently a good experience. If I had one negative thing to say, it would be about one person that works the front desk. This person is simply not friendly. They are not rude, or outwardly unfriendly in anyway, but for somebody that works in the hospitality industry they are probably one of the most inhospitable people I have ever dealt with at a hotel. It's too bad I have to check in with them. Just such a difference in the attitude of this person versus literally everyone else here. Not sure why they work in a hotel if they're just not wanting to muster a smile when someone is arriving and wanting to check in."
